Meet Dr. Rosemary Klassen, MD

Board-Certified Family Medicine & Primary Care Physician in Asheville, NC

Welcome — and thank you for taking the time to be here.

I’m Dr. Rosemary Klassen, a board-certified family medicine physician and the founder of Asheville Holistic Medicine. My intention is to offer the Asheville community a calm, compassionate, and grounded medical home — a place where people feel deeply listened to, respected, and supported in their whole humanity.

I provide integrative primary care and lifestyle medicine in Asheville, North Carolina, blending evidence-based family medicine with holistic, nervous-system-aware support.

Holistic Primary Care & Family Medicine in Asheville

While I am your physician, my approach to medicine is rooted in partnership. I see myself not as an authority over your body, but as a skilled guide and collaborator — walking alongside you as we listen carefully to what your symptoms, experiences, and nervous system are communicating.

I believe healing happens most sustainably when care is relational, unhurried, and grounded in safety — and when primary care makes space for the full context of a person’s life.

Medical Training & Experience in Family Medicine and Primary Care

I trained in conventional medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine and completed my family medicine residency at MAHEC here in Asheville. For years, I practiced in traditional primary care settings, caring for patients across the lifespan.

I valued the science, the rigor, and the responsibility of primary care — and yet, over time, I began to notice a recurring pattern. Lab values could improve, diagnoses could be managed, and still many people felt anxious, depleted, disconnected, or unwell in ways that medicine alone could not fully address.

That realization led me to listen more deeply — both to my patients and to my own body.

Integrative Primary Care & Lifestyle Medicine- Nervous-System-Informed, Whole-Person Care

I began studying yoga, meditation, lifestyle medicine, and somatic approaches to better understand how stress, trauma, daily habits, and nervous-system patterns shape physical and emotional health.

Through advanced training in therapeutic yoga, hatha yoga, vinyasa yoga, kundalini yoga, and somatic practices, I came to see clearly what many patients already know intuitively: symptoms are often intelligent signals, not failures — and that healing requires safety, presence, and attuned support.

Today, my work blends evidence-based primary care with integrative and holistic medicine, lifestyle medicine, and nervous-system-informed care. Rather than rushing to suppress symptoms, we slow down and listen together. We explore root causes, clarify what your body needs, and create personalized care plans that honor both medical science and your lived experience.

Lifestyle Medicine, Somatic Practices & Mind–Body Healing

Lifestyle medicine is a core part of how I practice. Together, we look at sleep, stress, movement, nutrition, relationships, and meaning — not as rigid prescriptions, but as living systems that shape health over time.

My goal is to help patients develop sustainable, supportive rhythms that work with their nervous system, not against it.

Who I Care For- Primary Care for Anxiety, Burnout & Sensitive Nervous Systems

I am especially passionate about caring for people with anxiety, depression, burnout, sensitive nervous systems, trauma histories, and persistent or hard-to-diagnose symptoms.

Many of my patients are thoughtful, self-aware, and deeply attuned — and have often felt that the healthcare system moves too fast for their nervous system. My goal is to offer primary care that feels safe to inhabit.

A Calmer, More Relational Approach to Primary Care

Outside of clinical work, you’ll often find me practicing yoga, walking in the mountains around Asheville, or sitting quietly with a cup of tea — remembering, and often reminding my patients, that stillness itself can be powerful medicine.
